Gaining Public Speaking Skills
Public speaking skills are gained by following the Communication Track of the Education Programme provided by Toastmasters International. Members are encouraged to also follow the Leadership Track as this helps in furthering confidence as well as building a more commanding stage presence.
The Communication Track starts with the Competent Communication manual. On completion of all 10 projects, the member is awarded the title of Competent Communicator (CC). For each project, the member is evaluated formally in the club meetings. Audience members also provide completed feedback slips to the speaker. On achieving a CC status, members move onto the advanced speech projects. There is a large variety of Advanced Communication Series manuals to select from. On completion of each subsequent set of 10 projects, members are eligible to receive the next level of award, as shown on the preceeding Education Programme page. Club members are encouraged to participate in contests for prepared speeches. The winners of contests go through to the next rounds where they speak in front of different (and progressively larger) audiences, thus providing a valuable learning opportunity and experience. |
More details about the Communication Track are available on the Toastmasters website.
